The Importance of buildingSMART Professional Certification
The buildingSMART Professional Certification program is addressing standardisation in BIM education by providing an international framework and benchmark for training and certification. The curriculum is developed and coordinated by the buildingSMART Professional Certification Committee from various Chapters globally and is peer reviewed by an international advisory panel.
It the most widely accepted qualifications for BIM based on open standards; supported by its thirty seven (37; and rapidly growing) Chapters all over the world.
There are four levels offered by buildingSMART:
Entry (available straight from buildingSMART)
This program offers free online educational resources (self-paced training) and a free 10-question online exam that is managed on the Qualification Platform. No pre-requisite.
Foundation (available now through Innovacia)
The Foundation level addresses the needs of individuals operating at a basic level. This program is for government, industry (clients, consultants, manufacturers, contractors) and education practitioners as well as students who wish to be certified in BIM under a globally recognised qualification program; based on international standards and best practices. Upon successful completion of the training, the participant can undertake the online exam to become buildingSMART-qualified. Requires Foundation training.
Management*
The Management level is aimed at industry professionals involved in the management of digitally empowered projects. It provides fundamental knowledge and insight at strategic and operative levels, without descending into technical detail. Upon successful completion of the training, the participant can undertake the online exam to become buildingSMART-qualified. Requires Foundation Certificate & Management training.
Practitioner*
The Practitioner level addresses a comprehensive spectrum of competencies, emphasizing applied learning and practical expertise. Practitioners at this level possess substantial theoretical and technical knowledge of buildingSMART standards, services, and related solutions, complemented by practical experience in their application to project and asset management. Requires Foundation Certificate.
